Regionally rooted, globally linked

The Institute of Rural History (IRH), founded in 2002 in St. Pölten, is an independent research institute which deals with rural work and life in different times and spaces.

FolderGaining knowledge - The IRH undertakes research on rural environmental, economic, political, social and cultural history of (Lower) Austria, Europe and the world.

Following actors - The IRH's research focuses on the relations of people among themselves and with their natural and social environments.

Linking people - The IRH aims at fostering the scientific discourse across boundaries as well as communicating its insights to the wider public.

For further information see the current IRH-Folder (German).

Since 2013 the IRH is head office of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO).
